AFC Hornchurch vs Farnborough F.C.
Conference South
Attendance - 263
AFC Hornchurch were at home this weekend to Farnborough in a
game that saw both teams wanting to pull away from the bottom three. This didn’t
quite happen with the match finishing a goal apiece. New signing, and
ex-tottenham midfielder, Ben Bowditch made his debut for the club.
Hornchurch started the game brightly and piled on the
pressure which finally paid off when the home team were awarded a penalty after
the ball was handled in the area. Lewis Smith stepped up and calmly slotted the
ball in the back of the net.
The Urchins didn’t make the most of this lead and soon after
allowed Farnborough to equalise through a controversial goal in the 9th
minute. Dave Tarpey’s shot seemed to cross the line after slipping through the
keepers hands but the linesman didn’t wave his flag to give the goal, but after
a brief discussion with the referee the goal was given.
Hornchurch dominated the rest of the game and created many
chances but were unable to beat Craig Bradshaw in the Farnborough goal. The
match finished 1-1 and Hornchurch will feel that it was 2 points lost after
such a positive start and performance.
